Pathology: granular cell tumour

Granular cell tumour

  • Nests and anastomosing cords of round-polygonal cells

  • Abundant granular eosinophilic cytoplasm

  • Round-ovoid nuclei with occasional pseudonuclear inclusions; inconspicuous mitotic activity

  • Desmoplastic stroma

  • IHC: S100

  • Lacks features of malignancy (i.e., sarcomatoid morphology, significant mitosis, geographic necrosis, pleomorphism and increased nuclear:cytoplasmic ratio)

  • PMID: 9669341

Granular cell tumour, malignant

  • Prior history of "granular cell tumour"

  • Nests and anastomosing cords of round-polygonal cells

  • Abundant granular eosinophilic cytoplasm

  • Ovoid hyperchromatic nuclei with mild pleomorphism and occasional pseudonuclear inclusions; mitotic activity

  • Background bone (i.e., metastasis)

  • IHC: S100, SOX10
